Forever is in beta: details may change before launch. How we verify

On this page

In short

  • Compare how hard a Fireball, Frostbolt and Frostfire Bolt crit hits with your talents.
  • Reproduces Blizzard's official example (280% with both talents maxed).
  • Intermediate ranks use the Classic values.

Crit multiplier

Move the Ice Shards (Frost) and Ignite (Fire) ranks to see how much damage a crit of each spell deals compared with a normal hit.

Talent ranks
Damage of a critical strike as a percentage of a normal hit of the same spell. Bar: critical hit (violet) + Ignite (orange).

How it is calculated

  • A spell crit deals 150% damage (+50%). Classic reference: This is how it works in WoW Classic. Forever has not announced a change; not yet checked in game.
  • Ice Shards raises that bonus by 20% per rank for Frost spells: at 5/5 the crit becomes 200%. Classic reference: This is how it works in WoW Classic. Forever has not announced a change; not yet checked in game.
  • Ignite burns for 8% per rank of the crit’s damage over 4 s for Fire spells: 40% at 5/5. Classic reference: This is how it works in WoW Classic. Forever has not announced a change; not yet checked in game.
  • Frostfire Bolt counts as Fire and Frost, so it gets both: 200% + 40% of 200% = 280%. That is exactly Blizzard’s example. Official: Published by Blizzard in a source we have read.

Other modifiers (crit chance, target resistance) are not included: this compares how hard a crit hits, not how many crits you will land.

Why it is missing
A useful talent calculator needs Forever's full tree with values, and Blizzard has only published the changes.
What we will do
Once the tree is stable after launch we will add a planner with shareable build links.
